ST. GEORGE – Despite severe damage to both vehicles involved, everyone walked away from a collision that took place at the intersection of Bluff Street and 700 South in St. George Wednesday night.

“Pretty extensive damage on both vehicles,” St. George Police Sgt. David Williams said. “Both were towed. Fortunately, no injuries.”
At 6:53 p.m., the St. George Communications Center received a report of the accident, which occurred when a 16-year-old girl driving a passenger van attempted to turn left from Bluff Street onto 700 South and turned in front of a Chevy Cavalier that was traveling north on Bluff Street, colliding with it.
“The van thought it had a break in traffic big enough to make it through,” Williams said.
In addition to the teenage driver, the van was carrying one passenger . The driver of the Cavalier was the only occupant of that vehicle.
Williams said both vehicles were totaled and had to be towed from the scene. He said responding officers were surprised to find that no one had been injured, considering the severity of damage to both vehicles.

The driver of the van received a citation for failure to yield the right of way. Williams said there was nothing to indicate the teen girl had been distracted while driving.
In addition to the SGPD, St. George Fire and Gold Cross Ambulance responded to the accident scene, though no one was ultimately transported to the hospital. Several officers oversaw traffic control while the scene was attended to, and it took just over an hour for the scene to be completely cleared, though the disabled vehicles were cleared from the roadway in just over a half-hour, Williams said.
This report is based on preliminary information provided by law enforcement or other emergency responders and may not contain the full scope of findings.
